How durable is the colour of Onyx Black?

Jessica Marin Updated by Jessica Marin

Our Ophena S and Ophena S Pro in Onyx Black are not painted, but DLC coated in Sweden.

As for our silver version, they are made of stainless steel, which is then polished to a very fine level.

Our Onyx Black stirrups are based on the silver version, which are then DLC coated in Sweden. DLC stands for diamond-like carbon. During this complex process, which takes place in a vacuum, a carbon layer forms directly on the metal. This technology is also used, for example, to coat the stainless steel bezel of iPhones and premium watches. The carbon layer is very hard and resistant (technically even harder than the steel surface itself).

As you can see, we put a lot of effort into it. But we would like to point out that even a coating as strong as this can wear, e.g. through impacts with other hard objects. But it is very strong and does not flake off.

Since the silver version is natural, uncolored stainless steel, it can never lose its silver color.

How did we do?
